Branyan Road State School is a band 7 school situated in the south western approaches to Bundaberg. It is one of Education Queensland’s schools in the North Coast Region. The school was opened in 1905 and occupies a site which has a water treatment plant on one side and new housing developments on the other. The school itself was virtually surrounded by medium acreages dedicated to small-crops production.

For most of its history Branyan Road has been a small, one-teacher school. In recent years, areas beyond the school towards the river have been subdivided and now contain a significant population.

Heading towards the Bundaberg CBD are established residential areas. A large shopping precinct is within a five minute drive from the school. Bus services transport students to and from school from established housing developments along the main highway south from Bundaberg.

Given the projected future growth of housing in the area, it is likely that the school will experience sustained enrolment increases over the next decade or so with a substantial area of adjoining farmland approved for residential development. This growth will be underpinned by the steady and continuing shift of commercial and other activity into the Sugarland area.
